The 2009 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, which takes place through October, features
over 100 free events including music, theater, circus, dance, poetry, family festivals and children's programs, with an
international array of artists from Cuba, Bali, Brazil, Israel, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, and other lands.
There's also plenty of jazz, including
Jerry Gonzalez & the Fort Apache Band, Yosvany Terry, Linda Tillery & the Cultural Heritage Choir,
John Worley's WorlView, and the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra.
"I am proud to present in such a beautiful San Francisco location the finest performing artists of the Bay Area and
beyond" says the festival's Executive/Artistic Director, Linda Lucero. "In the light of our economic climate, I expect Yerba Buena Gardens Festival to be the very first stop for Bay Area audiences looking for top-quality cultural programs, all absolutely free of charge."
Yerba Buena Gardens is located in the heart
of San Francisco's SoMa district, between Mission, Howard, Third and Fourth streets. Concerts take place in the Esplanade near
the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (which is not, incidentally, affiliated with this free music series). The dance concerts
take place at Jessie Square (in front of the Contemporary Jewish Museum).
