The Sounds of Jazz, Blues Return to San Jose

Saxophonist David Sanborn headlines the 19th annual San Jose Jazz Festival in a Tribute to Ray Charles and Hank Crawford

The sounds of jazz, blues and R&B return to downtown San Jose August 8-10 for the 19th annual Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival. From Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, over 80,000 music lovers will converge on the heart of Silicon Valley to enjoy more than 1,000 musicians performing three days of jazz, blues, salsa, Latin, R&B, electronica and many other forms of contemporary music.

With more than 80 performances on 10 different stages throughout downtown San Jose, this year's festival encompasses a stunning array of local, national, and international talent. The diversity of sounds and styles -- everything from R&B to salsa to straight-ahead jazz -- practically guarantees that you'll be humming along with an old favorite one minute and dancing to a brand new groove the next.

In its early days, the San Jose Jazz Festival was a free event; now there's a modest $10 admission charge per day ($25 for a three-day pass). Admission for kids under 12 is free.

Jazz is the basis for most of the popular music of today, and the Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival showcases that breadth. This year's line-up includes national celebrities like David Sanborn and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, outstanding Bay Area talents like Gail Dobson and Dayna Stephens, and some of the hottest Latin jazz and salsa artists on the scene today, as well as international artists from India, Egypt, England, Hungary, Cuba, and Brazil.

Here's the full schedule for this year's jazz festival:
